Why You Need to Vaccinate Your Child: Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C)

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.1 MIS-C is not completely understood. Many health experts think it is caused by a misdirected immune response to the coronavirus, leading to inflammation in body organs.2
Data from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that 98 percent of those with MIS-C had tested positive for COVID-19.
Could it be MIS-C?
CDC recommends parents to contact healthcare provider and seek medical attention, especially after the child had COVID-19 infection within the past 6 weeks, if the child has fever and one of the following symptoms:1
- Stomach pain
- Bloodshot eyes
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness or lightheadedness (signs of low blood pressure)
- Skin rash
- Vomiting

Prevention: MIS-C
Vaccine is highly effective in preventing COVID-19 infection among those at risk of developing MIS-C.
Why risk your child developing MIS-C after COVID-19 infection when you can reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection with vaccines? Vaccine also reduce the risk of developing MIS-C among children by 91%.3
Mild Infection Among Children No Longer An Excuse
Many parents cite the lower death rate and milder symptoms among children to be the reason for not vaccinating their children. This is no longer an excuse.
MIS-C might be rare but it is serious.
PICKids is underway.4 Vaccinate your child today!
