Malaysian research shows that low vitamin D can be common in adolescents, although the exact percentage changes depending on the study population and the blood-level cut-off used. For Malaysian teenagers, the local RNI of 600 IU (15 mcg) per day is a useful intake reference.[7] If deficiency is suspected or confirmed, or if a teen has a chronic condition that affects vitamin D absorption or metabolism, the appropriate dose should be decided by a doctor or pharmacist.[8]
